Job description:

"Quality is not an act, it is a habit." - Aristotle

Quality. In our industry, this is a word we often use to describe an attribute of something that works.

Lets face it. All day long, we do unit tests, test scripts, regression testing, and all sorts of testing alchemy to ensure that something works as expected. We diligently file tech support tickets and communicate with relevant stakeholders in an effort to ensure that everything works exactly as it should. But in doing this day in, day out, it is easy to be deluded into the thought that this is all there is to our profession.

For us, the word quality takes on a different meaning. Quality does not merely equate to making it work. Here, quality means that whatever it is we do must conform to the highest standards possible. It means that we must not merely produce functional tech, rather we must ensure that we stop at nothing short of creating technology that elicits absolute delight. It means that everything that comes out of our kitchen should be nothing short of extraordinary.

Here, the pursuit of quality takes on a deeper and more profound meaning. More than satisfaction, it means distinction. More than functional, it means excellent. More than usable, it means performant. Class, caliber, character, reputation, all of these are synonyms of quality, yet we rarely see this in our daily life.

Why? Because practicing quality is *hard*. It requires diligence, dedication, passion and commitment. This is because quality is not merely an objective. It is a way of life. It is what separates "first-world" economies from developing ones.

When you say German, Swiss, or Japanese, what's the first word that comes to mind? In our context, you can say it's quality. We know that BMW means quality. Patek Philippe means quality. Toyota means quality.

That's the reason why you might prefer something labeled "Made in Japan". You trust the Japanese brand because you understand that quality is deeply embedded in their culture, in their everyday life, and they have a reputation for producing things that are not only useful but delightful. This is why their economy is able to produce timeless items that we loved as children from PlayStation generation 1, to characters like Mario and Zelda.

Congruently, the reason why we have horrendous traffic, Jurassic internet connection speeds, "third-world" transportation systems, and so on and so forth, is because the standard of quality that we hold ourselves to is very questionable.

However, we stand as an organization to go against the status quo. Instead of complaining, we want to be part of the solution. It all starts with ourselves. It all starts by adopting a mindset of quality and excellence and not settling for anything less in everything that we do. It is ensuring that we only produce the best products and services possible, which can stand toe-to-toe with any other in the world. It is being proud of our work such that everything that we do is not just satisfactory but outstanding.

In doing so, we aim to raise the quality of the technology we produce and ultimately make life easier, efficient, fun, and meaningful.

If you think you have a mindset to become a disciple of quality, then you might be the teammate we are looking for. But be warned, this is a path that around these parts is the road less traveled. It will be hard. It will be arduous. But at the end of the day we go home proud, content and fulfilled that have been able to raise our banners high, that our work can be put on the shelf that is reserved for only the very best of quality.
