System Administrator

JOB DESCRIPTION

Assists in long-range planning, and in managing projects assigned

Provides technical expertise to users by recommending the most appropriate hardware and software products suitable to their needs

Provides technical support (evaluation, recommendation, installation, and implementation) in conjunction with third-party products

Provides problem resolution for systems and end-users

Analyzes and provides recommendations based on systems requirements

Performs corrective or preventive maintenance

Implements procedures and solutions for optimizing systems and software within the department

Maintains up-to-date documentation and records pertaining to departments infrastructure

Knowledgeable in developing and conducting technical transfer training programs for other employees at the same or lower level of this series

Thorough and adept in developing technical diagnostics manuals for colleagues

Performs research in support of planning and upgrades/replacement of systems and software

Ensures systems functionality, integrity and efficiency

Performs other related duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES

College graduate or equivalent (ECE, COE, ComSci)

1-4 years work experience related to programming or administration or data communication

Competent knowledge foundation on computer functions and operations

Competent knowledge foundation on middleware technologies.

Competent knowledge foundation on switch concept and scripting

Good oral and written communications skills
